The American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter urges local residents to be on the lookout for potential danger and signs of problems in homes that were damaged by recent floodwaters. Recent fires seemed to have started within the electrical wiring of some homes.

Look for fire hazards.
There may be broken or leaking gas lines, flooded electrical circuits, or submerged furnaces or electrical appliances. Flammable or explosive materials may travel from upstream. Fire is the most frequent hazard following floods.

Red Cross Assists
Winlock Family Devastated by Fire

[Winlock, WA] -
The American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter is providing emergency assistance for a Winlock family after their home was destroyed by fire early Saturday morning at 925 North Military Blvd.

Winlock
Red Cross disaster volunteers, Michaelle Fries and Liz Schroeder, and Robert Majoros of Centralia, arrived at the scene to help provide canteen services for the five fire departments fighting the blaze.

The fire totally destroyed the home and took hours for firefighters to extinguish. Local Red Cross volunteers stayed at the scene to support firefighters and provide hot coffee, juice, water, and sandwiches until crews were able to bring the fire under control.

Three generations of the family (four adults and one child) were displaced from their home by this devastating disaster. Red Cross disaster relief assistance will provide the disaster victims with emergency shelter so they can begin their recovery.

When disaster strikes our community, the local Red Cross is your conduit of compassion -- the most direct link between people who want to help and people who need help in an emergency. You can help this family and hundreds of others affected by local disasters by making a financial gift to the American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter.

The most common disaster the local Red Cross chapter responds to is a house or apartment fire. Your contribution enables the American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter to provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to those in need. Contributions to the fund can be made by calling (360) 748-4607.

Contributions may also be sent to the American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter,
Lewis County Office, 1817 South Market Blvd., Chehalis, WA 98532. All American Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the local community.

The Red Cross is not a government agency. Therefore, donations to the American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter are even more critical to supporting local Red Cross programs and services in our community. The local Red Cross disaster relief and emergency services budget is dependant upon the contributions made by community members – individual donors, businesses, and foundations.
