Many people don’t realize that when
the local
fire department responds to a residential house
or apartment fire that the American Red Cross
is also there at the scene.
Our Red Cross volunteers, unsung heroes, are
on call 24-hours a day, seven days a week, often leaving behind friends,
loved ones, and their warm beds in the middle of the night to help
provide assistance to local families devastated by a disaster.

RED CROSS
FAST FACTS
Red Cross disaster volunteers
have assisted over 200 people who were displaced
from their homes.
Red Cross provides immediate emergency assistance for those affected
by a disaster by providing temporary shelter, vouchers for food and
clothing, blankets, comfort kits, and community referrals. |
|
|
When our Red Cross volunteers arrive, they work immediately to meet the
emergency needs of those affected such as providing a safe place to
stay and vouchers that can be used to replace clothing, food, personal items,
and any medications that may have been lost.
In our community, the American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter assists a
family devastated by a disaster almost every 48 hours.
The Red Cross encourages everyone to take steps to help ensure
the safety of your loved ones by reviewing your emergency plan with your
family members twice a year, checking your smoke alarms, putting
together or purchasing your disaster supplies kit, and importantly
practicing ways to escape from your home. |
