Never
out of touch - whether it is around the clock or around the world -
military families can depend on the American Red Cross Mount Rainier
Chapter serving Pierce, Thurston, Mason, Lewis, and Grays Harbor Counties.
Service members know they can count on the
American Red Cross to help them stay in touch
with their families and offer assistance when emergencies arise.
Every 11 seconds, the American Red Cross helps

or one of their family members send over 40,000
to 50,000 emergency communications every year!
Emergency
Communications
In the event of an emergency, critical accident, illness or death in a
service member’s immediate family, the American Red Cross should be called
at
once.
The American Red Cross is the only agency authorized and equipped to verify the situation
and then forward the information to the proper military authorities. The
American Red Cross is
not a government agency.
Should an
emergency leave request be necessary, the information provided by the Red
Cross
is used by the commanding officer so that a decision as
whether or not to grant leave may be made. |

Information, Referral
and Advocacy
The Red Cross also helps military families cope
with non-urgent problems
by providing referrals,
information, and guidance on a confidential basis. These
services include helping military families receive assistance from other agencies and
also
providing assistance with arranging family support.
Health and Welfare
Inquiries
Regular communication between service members and their families is
ordinarily no problem, but sometimes a long period without contact can be
worrisome. The American Red Cross can help.
Through our worldwide communications
network,
the Red Cross can communicate with military installations or ships where the
service person
is stationed. Families can receive a report on the welfare and status
of their loved one - providing
peace of mind. Service members may also request the same service
for their families back home. |
