The
American Red Cross supports the International Committee of the Red Cross
(ICRC) and others in the Red Cross Movement in calling for a total ban
on landmines.
In the meantime, the American Red Cross will continue to work with
colleagues in all components of the Red Cross Movement to furnish aid to
victims of landmines, and carry out our work to educate people
everywhere about international humanitarian law (IHL), the body of rules
and principles utilized in seeking to save lives and alleviate suffering
during armed conflict. While we work to prevent future victims, we must
also not forget those suffering now.
The American Red Cross calls upon the international community to expand
its support for the physical and vocational rehabilitation of landmine
victims.
