Orientation
to International Services (OIS) presents the historical
roots of the American Red Cross and the organization's identity as
part of
the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and it's
involvement in humanitarian relief efforts around the globe. For those
who wish to continue learning about the Red Cross, there is an
overview of three additional courses: international humanitarian law (IHL),

Humanity in the
Midst of War (International Humanitarian Law — IHL) examines
legal protections for the victims of war and discusses the work of the Red
Cross on their behalf. The course builds on the introduction to IHL
presented in the OIS course and provides greater insight into the role of
the Red Cross under international law.
International
Relief and Development (IRD) addresses the role of the American
Red Cross in international relief and development at home and abroad.
Learn about international delegates who work overseas, in-kind donations,
and how to facilitate the establishment of community-based international
programs and activities, especially in times of international crises.
Tracing and
Other International Social Services (ISS) provides training in
the social services that reestablish family ties when individuals in local
communities are cut off from their relatives by war, political tensions or
disaster. This training is of particular interest to caseworkers, refugee
and ethnic groups, and staff members in other agencies that work with Red
Cross international services as partners in service delivery.
