ANNOUNCEMENT
Community Chapter
Executive,
American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter
Tacoma, WA
Reporting to the Regional Chapter Executive
(“Regional Executive”), the Community Chapter Executive (”Community
Executive”) acts as the chapter’s chief fundraiser and is
responsible for meeting specific annual fundraising targets. The Red
Cross Community Chapter Executive will also be the face of the Red
Cross in the community building awareness and working to establish a
positive perception of the organization in the local community.
He/she also has responsibility for managing the local chapter’s
board. He/she provides leadership and fosters teamwork and strong
communications for regional, chapter and national staff located in
the Mount Rainier territory to promote excellent service delivery in
support of the Red Cross mission.
Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance
with standard operating procedures, regulations outlined in the Code
of Federal Regulations (CFR), Occupational Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA) and other applicable Federal, state and local
regulations.
Responsibilities
Fundraising
Under the
leadership of the Regional Chief Development Officer, supports
Chapter fundraising strategies and activities such as major gifts,
grants, corporate and foundation proposals, cause-related marketing,
cultivation of corporate partners and individual donors, disaster
fund raising, etc. to achieve budgeted goals and to diversify the
fundraising base.
Actively
develop private and public support and cultivate key donors and
corporate partners through personal visits and speaking
engagements.
Cultivates
relationships and partnerships with external constituents in the
local community, including corporate partners and donors.
Develops
and manages a portfolio of individual, corporate and foundation
major gift prospects and donors; meets or exceeds individual
fundraising goals; abides by Association of Fundraising
Professionals (AFP) Code of Ethical Principles and Standards.
Develops and grows financial resources ensuring that
the chapter has adequate and diversified
financial resources to meet service delivery and corporate financial
development goals. Provides
leadership to, and actively participates in, raising and leveraging
funds including working with the
chapter
board, Regional Executive and Regional Chief Development Officer on
fundraising
strategies, both locally and regionally, as needed.
Works
collaboratively with the Regional Chief Development Officer to
establish the Community
Chapter’s fundraising revenue budget.
Community Outreach and Public
Relations
Collaborates with Chapters
within the Regional grouping to ensure coordinated Red Cross
outreach to, and partnerships with, external constituents within the
Regional grouping including local and state government, and other
community charitable and social service agencies.
Increases
community awareness, participation and commitment to the Red Cross
by being an active community participant and ensuring regular local
media communications to the community regarding chapter services and
regional/national activities, consistent with regional/national
communication strategies. Acts as chief spokesman for the Red Cross
in the chapter’s territory, both with the media and through public
speaking at community and business groups.
Leadership
Supports
and fosters teamwork, well coordinated operations and service
delivery with the American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter area,
coordinating closely with Regional and National staff located at the
Red Cross chapter. Initiates team meetings and proactively works to
resolve issues in coordinating chapter operations.
Within regional strategies and locally assessed community and donor
needs and objectives, support and promote sufficient capacity and
consistent and responsive delivery of high-quality Red Cross
services within his/her chapter, including emergency and disaster
response services, preparedness and Health & Safety programs,
Services to Armed Forces, and international services. Proactively
communicate with regional and national staff responsible for service
delivery within American Red Cross Mount Rainier territory and with
the Western Washington regional leadership regarding service
delivery.
Program Administration
Builds local Red Cross chapter capacity for service
delivery through the effective involvement and
engagement of volunteers and partners, working
closely with Operations and Volunteer Services
Manager and Regional Volunteer Services Manager.
Provides effective leadership in retaining,
rewarding, and motivating volunteers and employees within the local
Red Cross chapter.
Recruits
and manages an effective and involved local Red Cross board of
directors. Keeps board
informed
of Red Cross Chapter activities and results, provides opportunities
for board engagement
and supports board in their roles as fundraisers and advocates for
Red Cross in the community.
Management
Works with Red Cross Regional Executive and other Red
Cross Community Executives in the region
to ensure that efficiencies, cost-saving measures,
and shared services are implemented including
identification and testing of best practices.
Provides direct
supervision to the Operations and Volunteer Services Manager
delegating as needed to free as much time as possible to devote to
community visibility, board relationships and fundraising.
Works with the Regional
Executive and Regional Chief Operating Officer to provide input to
the region’s budget and for managing and controlling expenses within
the Red Cross chapter.

Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s
degree in business, philanthropy, non-profit administration or
similar field required. MBA or equivalent a plus.
Experience:
Ten years of
successful fund raising and management experience with at least five
years at a leadership level.
Managerial Experience and Skills:
-
Fundraising abilities and track record: a passion
for fund raising and the capability of recruiting major donors;
a thorough understanding of fund raising practices, trends and
issues; a successful track record in fundraising with major
donors.

Experience in public relations management and
ability to present the Red Cross Chapter programs and services
to the media and through public speaking

Strong leadership and management abilities,
including understanding and support of working in a matrix
management structure.

Experience managing a board of directors

General skills and abilities: ability to
plan, prioritize and organize work to maximize team performance
and meet customer expectations. Strong project management
skills. Commitment to professional development. Strong
interpersonal skills and the ability to create and maintain
collaborative work relationships within the organization and
with external stakeholders. Commitment to inclusiveness and the
ability to work effectively with diverse staff and
volunteers. Refined critical thinking, analysis and problem
solving skills and the ability to establish and adjust to
current and emerging priorities and negotiate multiple complex
activities. Excellent organizational skills and ability to work
with attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to successfully
handle stressful situations, including those which occur during
disaster response.
Other: Proficient
with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and
Outlook.
Travel: Periodic
day travel within the regional jurisdiction
Essential Functions/Physical Requirements
The duties

flexibility is required to meet sudden and unpredictable needs. May
be required to travel to sites throughout the region.

levels are based on the essential functions as stated in this
position description; however, in some instances, variances may
occur due to the applicable nature of this position within a
particular work site. Therefore the work site may determine the
exposure level to be greater than or less than the below stated
level.
